What is a Ger Camp?
A ger camp is a resort, often in a remote area, with accommodations in gers. On Blue Silk Travel's tours, travelers stay at ger camps throughout Mongolia that provide a welcoming atmosphere with friendly service, clean accommodations and excellent food.
Your gers all feature beds with linens. Most have a stove in the center that the staff light in the morning and evening for heating, although ger camps in the Gobi Desert don't have stoves.
Each ger camp has its own dining room, either in a large ger or in a central building. You will be served three meals per day, with either a set meal or a buffet. Ger camps typically work with local herders to provide fresh meat and milk.
Bathrooms and Showers
Most ger camps have a shared shower house toilets, while others feature ger camps with attached private bathrooms. Still others are ecolodges without running water. At these, travelers are given steamed hot towels and the staff wash visitors' hair.
Most ger camps have electricity for a few hours each evening, from a solar power or a gasoline generator. Others are connected to the grid and offer round-the-clock power.
At eco-lodges, gers are lit by candles instead of electric lights.
